Risk of school closure - industrial action

Risk of school closure - industrial action

On Monday, the National Education Union (NEU) announced that its ballot of teacher members in England has met the threshold required to start industrial action meaning there is a risk of closures to certain classes.

The NEU has the largest union membership of teachers at Albion compared to other unions.

The NEU has announced national and regional action in England. There is a risk that certain classes will close to pupils at Albion. We will publish more information to parent/carers by the end of the week as today is the day for the NEU to decide if they are to proceed with industrial action, giving schools at least 2 weeks notice.

From now, parents may wish to make contingency arrangements:

  • Wednesday 1 February 2023: all eligible members in England and Wales.
  • Thursday 2 March 2023: all eligible members in London, South East & South West regions.
  • Wednesday 15 March 2023: all eligible members in England and Wales.
  • Thursday 16 March 2023: all eligible members in England and Wales.

Ballots of other members of staff did not reach the 50% turnout required by law for industrial action. This includes support staff members of the NEU and teacher members of the NASWUT and NAHT. This refers to teachers who are NEU members.
