Can you believe we're already at the end of the first week of Summer Club? Time flies when you're having this much fun! If you missed our last two updates, catch up first. Trust us, you don't want to miss what's been going on. But today? Today deserves its own spotlight.

From creative masterpieces to icy discoveries, calming spa treatments to the irresistible smell of fresh popcorn. Our club members packed more into one day than most of us manage in a week! Here's how it all unfolded, and why every single activity was chosen with a purpose.

Getting Creative: Selfie Sea Frames

We kicked things off with Portrait Selfie Sea Frames. A beach-themed arts and crafts session where children designed their own ocean-inspired photo frames, complete with shells, sand textures, and a selfie image taking pride of place at the centre.

This wasn't just a glue and glitter (though there was plenty of both!). Crafting like this builds fine motor skills through cutting, sticking, arranging small pieces, while giving children a real sense of pride and identity; after all, there's nothing like seeing your own face proudly framed in something that you made yourself.

Making Some Noise: DIY Recycled Maracas

Riding the creative wave, we moved straight into building our very own maracas from recycled materials. Think bottles, tubs, and anything that makes a satisfying shake!

This activity does double duty. It sneaks in a valuable lesson about sustainability and reusing materials, while also introducing children to rhythm, sound and early musical concepts. Plus, watching a "rubbish" bottle transform into a musical instrument is exactly the kind of imaginative thinking we love to encourage.

Cool Discoveries: Ice Excavation

Next, we turned up the excitement (and cooled everyone down!) with Ice Excavation. Frozen blocks packed with hidden treasures, waiting to be carefully chipped, melted and explored.

This is hands-on science in action. Children explored cause and effect, temperature, and sates of matter, all while practising patiences and problem-solving as they worked out the best way to free their treasures. It's learning that doesn't feel like learning, which is exactly how we like it.

Time to Unwind: Spa Day

After all that excavating, it was time to relax. Our Spa Day saw club members enjoying nail painting, soothing foot soaks, and refreshingly cool cucumber facials.

Far from just a treat, spa activities like these encourage self-care habits early on. They teach children the value of taking time to relax, and are brilliant for social bonding; there's something about pampering each other that brings out the giggles and the friendships.

A Perfect Finish: Popcorn Making

And what a better way to end the day than with the smell of freshly popped popcorn filling the room? Our popcorn making session let children get hands-on with a real practical life skill, engaging their senses with the sounds, smells and textures of the process. Followed, of course, by the well-earned snack.

The Bigger Picture

What looks like "just a fun day" is actually a carefully balanced mix of creativity, science, self-care, and life skills. After all, that's what great summer club activities should do: Keep the fun high and the learning even higher, without children ever noticing the difference.

Stay tuned for next week's adventures. Trust us, were only just getting started.

APS Summer Club.
