Summer Club 2026 - End of Week 1

Week two Is Buzzing With Fun!

Can you believe it? We're already starting week two of Summer Club. If week one was the warm-up, week two looks to be the full-on show. Our crew has been busy little bees (quite literally, more on that below!). The energy has been nothing short of infectious. Here's everything we got up to, and why each activity is doing a lot more than just keeping little hands busy.

Morning Stretches

Every great day starts with a great stretch! Our morning movement sessions get bodies warmed up and brains switched on. Beyond the obvious physical benefits: flexibility, coordination, and body awareness. Stretching together as a group builds routine and self-regulation, helping children become calm, focused, and ready for the day ahead.

Bee Mobile Arts & Crafts (Made From Recycled Materials!)

A huge thank you to the local community for donating the materials that made this one possible! Our children transformed everyday recyclables into buzzing bee mobiles, and this activity was a win on every front. It sparked creativity and fine motor skills as little fingers cut, glued, and threaded. But it also planted an early seed of environmental awareness, showing children that "waste" can become something wonderful with a bit of imagination. A lovely reminder that sustainability lessons can start small (and glittery).

Ladybird & Leaf Prints Using Paint

Nature met art today as children pressed leaves and ladybird shapes into paint to create beautiful prints. This activity is brilliant for sensory exploration and understanding cause and effect (press hard, get a bold print!), while also building an appreciation for the natural world around them. Plus, no two prints are ever the same. A perfect lesson in individuality!

Dominoes

Simple but mighty! Dominoes might look like just a game, but they're secretly teaching pattern recognition, number matching, and turn-taking. It's a fantastic, low-pressure way to build early maths confidence while having a laugh with friends.

Duplo Building & Lego Time

Give a child a pile of bricks and watch the ideas come to life. Construction play like this strengthens problem-solving skills, spatial reasoning, and patience (towers do have a habit of toppling!). It's also wonderful for collaborative play, as children negotiate, share, and build together.

Recreate Your Own Fish Using a Paper Plate

A firm favourite! Turning a simple paper plate into a one-of-a-kind fish encourages imaginative thinking and design skills, while fine motor practice comes from cutting, folding, and decorating. It's proof that some of the best creativity comes from the simplest materials.

Board Games & More Games

From strategy to silliness, our board game sessions are about so much more than fun (though there's plenty of that too). Games teach children to follow rules, manage frustration, take turns, and perhaps most importantly, win and lose gracefully. Social skills, sorted.

Fancy Dress Fashion Walk

Cue the cheers and applause! Our fashion walk gave children the chance to dress up, strut their stuff, and be applauded for it. This kind of imaginative, performative play is a huge confidence booster, helping children practise self-expression and public speaking in the most joyful way possible.

Make Your Own Worry Doll Keychain

A gentle, meaningful activity with real emotional value. Worry dolls come from a lovely tradition of "sharing" your worries with a small doll so your mind can rest easier. Making their own keychain gave children a hands-on introduction to emotional literacy; learning that it's okay to name a worry, and that we all have simple tools to help us feel better.

Outdoor Exploring, Climbing, Finding, Tyre Play & Building

And of course, the great outdoors! Whether they were climbing, building dens, hunting for treasures, or getting creative with old tyres, outdoor play is where children take healthy risks, build physical strength and balance, and develop resilience. It's unstructured, it's messy, and it is absolutely essential for growing confident, capable children.

What a day it’s been! From bees to fashion shows to worry dolls, our Summer Club crew has shown creativity, kindness, and courage in equal measure.

Here's to tomorrow… same energy, please!

APS Summer Club.
