Another jam-packed day at Summer Club, and honestly, we’re not sure who had more fun, the children or the staff watching them!
If you caught our first post, you’ll already know this summer is all about big energy, big imaginations, and big smiles. Today was no exception. Here’s how the day unfolded, and why every single activity was chosen with a purpose in mind.
Rooftop Ready, Set, Go! [Mini Sports Day Obstacle Course]
We kicked things off with a mini sports day obstacle course up on the roof, the perfect way to burn off morning energy and get everyone buzzing. Obstacle courses are brilliant for building gross motor skills, balance, and coordination, but they also quietly teach resilience and perseverance.
What do you do when you wobble, trip, or come last? You get back up, laugh, and try again. That’s a life skill wrapped up in a game.
On Your Marks! [Scooter and Bike Racing]
With hearts already pumping, we kept the momentum going with scooter and bike racing. Beyond the sheer thrill of speed, this activity is fantastic for spatial awareness, balance, and road safety instincts; all while sneaking in some healthy competition and teamwork as children cheered each other on.
Learning to win graciously (and lose graciously!) is just as valuable as the ride itself.
Something Fishy [Finishing Our Fish Rods & Painted Fish Craft]
After all that action, it was time to slow the pace and get creative. The children put the finishing touches on their fish rods and painted fish craft. A lovely opportunity to develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and patience. There’s real pride in seeing a project through from start to finish, and this craft ties in beautifully with imaginative play.
We predict a very busy “fishing pond” appearing very soon!
Nature, Framed [Summer Nature Picture Frames]
We rounded off the day with summer nature picture frames. A calm, sensory activity where children collected and arranged natural materials into something uniquely their own. This kind of activity nurtures creativity, an appreciation for the natural world, and mindfulness, giving little ones a chance to slow down, notice their surroundings, and reflect after such an active day.
Why We Plan It This Way
You’ll notice the shape of our day: high-energy physical play first, easing into fine motor craft, and finishing with a calm, nature-based activity. This isn’t by accident! Balancing active, creative, and reflective experiences supports children’s physical development, concentration, and emotional wellbeing all in one day.
