Peer Mediators
At Albion we have Peer mediators who work in the playground at lunchtime.
The aim of the Peer Mediation Programme at Albion is to get “peers” to resolve conflict within the school playground using mediation.
This important role can be extremely beneficial to the children in the playground as well as the peer mediators themselves. Children apply for the role and receive training from our learning mentor and the previous year’s peer mediators.
The training covers:
- When is it ok to mediate
- When is it not ok to mediate
- What is conflict?
- Ways to look and sound friendly
- What makes a good listener?
- Ground rules and promises
- The meeting
The peer mediators have their own shed in the playground where ‘meetings’ are held to resolve conflict.
